Tsujimoto criticized the doubling of the government's share of expenses, and in response Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated, "We will make an effort to present a complete picture." The breakdown of the central government's share of expenses other than venue construction costs is as follows: 36 billion yen (about $243 million) for the Japan pavilion; 24 billion yen (approx. $162 million) for assistance to developing countries; 19.9 billion yen (roughly $134 million) for security; and 3.8 billion yen (about $25.6 million) to build momentum for the expo. The government explained that due to high prices and other factors, a total of 30.8 billion yen (approx. $208 million) included in the initial budget request for fiscal 2024 is not expected to cover the total cost of the Japan pavilion.
